1. not to brag

不是吹牛

These are Riley’s memories. And they are mostly happy as you.notice, not to brag.

這些是萊利的記憶。正如你看到的，它們中大部分都是快樂的，可不是我在吹牛。

Notes: brag的意思是“吹牛，自誇”。not to brag的意義爲“不是吹牛，不要自吹自擂”。例如：

I’m the best football player in the team, not to brag.

不是我吹牛，我是隊裏最棒的。

Please try not to brag too loudly even if you win something.

即使你贏了，也請試着不要那麼大聲的自吹自擂。

2. A real page turner.

一本引人入勝的好書。

Notes: 又是一個形象的口語句子。如果一本書讓你不想放下，一口氣翻完，該是多棒的一本書。a page turner的意思就是“引人入勝的書或者體驗”。例如：

This novel written by a famous Japanese writer is a real page turner.

這本由一位日本著名作家創作的小說非常引人入勝。

3. lay people off

裁員

We only got capital that’ll last a month maybe two. If we can’t find investors by then, we are gonna have to lay people off.

我們的資金只夠維持一到兩個月。如果那個時候我們還找不到投資人，就只能裁員了。

Notes: 美式英語，表示“辭退，解僱”。例如：

That company has to lay people off because of a financial problem.

因爲資金問題，那家公司不得不裁員。

4. I rest my case.

Notes: ”I rest my case.”用於與人爭論的過程中，通常在說完自己的看法之後加上這句。例如：

Here is no good for his health because of the bad air. We should move back to our hometown. I rest my case.

這裏空氣太差，對他的身體一點兒好處都沒有。我們應該搬回老家。我講完了。

5. roll your eyes

翻白眼

Sir, she just rolled her eyes at us.

長官，她剛纔朝我們翻了個白眼。

Notes: roll somebody’s eyes at somebody表示“朝某人翻了個白眼”，表明態度上的不尊重，有種不耐煩的感覺。例如：

I rolled my eyes at them because they just gossiped about me.

我朝他們翻了個白眼，因爲他們剛纔在說我的閒話。

6. run into

偶遇

I’m so glad that we ran into you.

遇到你我們真開心。

Notes: run into somebody表示“偶然遇到什麼人”。例如：

I ran into a former colleague in the shopping mall today.

我今天在購物中心遇見了以前的同事。
