  三分鐘英語對話:Driving Cars

S: Wow, is that you. sports car?

O: Yes, do you like it?

S: I love it! I used to always want to drive a green jaguar. Is it in good condition?

O: It looks good on the outside, but the inside is a different story. It needs a lot of servicing before it can go out on the roads again.

S: What's wrong with it?

O: Well, first of all, it needs a new engine, which is extremely expensive.

S: When's the last time you had it serviced?

O: It must have been a few years ago now.

S: I thought all cars needed regular servicing on a yearly basis.

O: They do. Once my son was born, there was no reason to drive this car anymore. It's only a two-seater, you know!

S: Whar else is wrong with it?

O: The heating controls don't work anymore, so it always feels like it's about 100 degrees in the car-even in the summer!

S: Anything else?

O: The brakes don't really work that well anymore either.

S: Why don't you get it all fixed?

O: It costs more than you think to run a car_especially when there are so many things wrong with it?

S: Well, let me know when you get it fixed, I'd love to go for a ride in it!

O: Are you ready for your first driving lesson?

S: Yes. Which one is the brake again?

O: The pedal on your left is the brake and the one on your right is the gas.

S: I'm glad this car is an automatic. I don't like having to change gears.

O: Automatics are very simple to drive. The first thing you should do is put your seat belt on.

S: You should also put yours on. You never know what will happen with me in the driver's seat!

O: Very funny. Next you should check your side mirrors and your rear view mirror. Can you see out of them?

S: I can't see anything out of the side mirror on your side of the car. Could you move it forward a bit, please?

O: How's that?

S: That's better. Now that?

O: Check your petrol situation.

S: The tank is almost empty. I guess I'll drive to the petrol station to fill it up.

O: That's a good idea. Put your keys in the ignition, start it up, put the car in reverse, wait for the road to be clear, and then back out of the driveway.

S: I got it. Don't worry. I'll get you there in one piece.

O: Remember, no honking this time. The horn is only for emergencies!

S: Why does that cop car behind me have its red lights on?

  三分鐘英語對話:Cycling

M: How do you usually get to school?

A: I usually ride my bike. Which form of transport do you prefer to use?

M: I feel that I can see more when I pedal a bicycle, but when I feel lazy, I drive my cat.

A: I think we should discourage people from using their private cars. They produce too much pollution!

M: I agree, but I would find it difficult to stop using my car. It's just so convenient.

A: Cars might be convenient, but they're so bad for the environment.

M: Do you have a car?

A: No. I used to have one though. Once I started using my bicycle to get around, I found that I didn't really need it.

M: Maybe if I sold my car now, I wouldn't be so tempted to use it.

A: You could try. It would save you a lot of money.

M: That's true. Every month, I spend hundreds of dollars on gas, insurance, and repairs.

A: If you got to class by riding a bicycle every day instead of driving, you will get lots of exercise, too!

M: I could stand to lose a few pounds. Having a car has made me lazy. I never end up walking anywhere!

A: Let's go to a car dealership. I'll help you try to sell your car for a good price.

M: Sounds good! Let's go!

A: Are you ready to go the concert?

M: Yes. Should we go there by bus so we aren't late?

A: Actually, why don't we go there by bike? We could get stuck in traffic if we travel by bus in rush hour.

M: That's true. Cycling is good for our environment, too. Let me just get my helmet then.

A: Is your helmet comfortable?

M: Not really, but I liked the design, so I got it.

A: Maybe you should think about getting a round helmet; they're better.

M: I'll think about it.

A: Is that your new bicycle?

M: Yes, my father gave it to me for my birthday. Do you like it?

A: It's the newest 10 speed cycling mountain bike. These are really expensive!

M: Nothing but the best from my dad. I like eveything about it except for the brakes. They're a bit sticky.

A: I can fix those for you. Is there anything else wrong with it?

M: Well, my saddle is too low for me. Do you know how to change the height?

A: That's easy. It's important to have the saddle high enough so that your legs can extend fully when you're on your bicycle.

M: Is that why my knees have felt sore after every time I've ridden my bike?

A: It's possible Give me a minute and I can fix these for you and then we can go.

  三分鐘英語對話:Public Transportation

M: So, how should we get to the theatre?

G: Let's take the bus.

M: I hate the bus system in London! The bus drivers are rude, the buses are never on time, and there are few people around who can help you.

G: It's not that bad. You probably just had a had experience once.

M: It wasn't just once. Every single time I take the bus, something bad happens to me or to someone else on the bus.

G: We could take the subway, but we'd have to go three stops along one line and then change trains twice.

M: Train fares are twice as expensive as the bus fare, too.

G: If we don't hurry up, we'll miss the show. Should we take the bus?

M: We're already late, so I think we had better take a taxi.

G: I don't think we'll be able to find a taxi very easily during rush hour. Let's just take the bus.

M: Fine. Have a look at the timetable to find out when the next one arrives.

G: It looks like it should be here in just a few minutes.

M: Don't worry. Nothing bad will happen. I'll even buy your ticket for you.

G: Thanks, that was nice of you.

M: See, now something good has happened to you on a bus trip!

  3分鐘英語對話:Public Transportation

G: Is everything alright?

M: Yes, everything is fine.

G: What took so long? I thought your flight was supposed to arrive 3 hours ago!

M: Didn't they announce that our flight was delayed?

G: I didn't hear anything about a dealy. I thought everything was running on time. What happened?

M: We boarded the plane on time, but then we were held up for almost an hour due to a maintenance problem.

G: Then what? Your plane was three hours late!

M: We finally took off, but about 30 minutes later, the captain came on the loudspeaker to warm us that there would be some bad turbulence for most of the flight.

G: Turbulence is pretty normal, isn't it?

M: Yes, but this was the worst turbulence I'd ever experienced in my life! Everyone started getting sick. The flight attendants had to stay in their seats. The captain decided to land early.

G: So where did you land?

M: We landed in Southampton and waited an hour for the storms to pass and then took off again.

G: That sounds like a nightmare!

M: It wasn't too bad. At least I'm alive.

G: Have you had anything to eat?

M: I managed to get a sandwich from a flight attendant. How about you?

G: I had a few coffees while I was waiting. Let's get out of here!
