Make a difference 是指會對現有的情況造成差別，跟以往不同。
A：I know you.need some financial help. If I give you a raise, will it help?
我知道你需要一些經濟支援。若我給你加薪會有幫助嗎？
B：Well, it will certainly make a difference. 呃，這將會大有幫助。
Make a difference 也可以指對於現狀有所不滿，希望未來能使大環境產生變化。
A：What do you want to do with your job? 你這一生要做什麼？
B：I want to be a nurse so that I can make a difference. 我要當護士讓自己力挽狂瀾。
Read someone like an open book 看穿某人的心思
A：You and Sara seem to make a good couple. 你和薩拉真是天生一對。
B：Yeah. She reads me like an open book. 對啊。她能看穿我的心思。
Paint the town red 盡情享受夜生活

How ya doing? 你好！（最常用的一句問候語）
其中ya=you。完整的句子應該是“how are you doing?”，“are”在這裏被省略了。回答通常爲：“I am doing fine.”也可以說“Good”or“Great”。

“fish”這裏指的是人。該短語往往用於約會或戀愛中。

Make sense （1）有意義；（2）瞭解其含義
該短語可以表示兩種意義，在理解時要根據上下文。在表示“瞭解其含義”時，後面一般跟“of”短語。
1）What you say doesn’t make any sense. I don’t want to listen to it at all.
你的話毫無意義，我根本不想聽。
2）To be frank, do you really make sense of what he says? 說實話，你真的聽懂他的話了嗎？
No kidding! 別開玩笑了!
在美國英語中，kid作名詞指“小孩”，作動詞是“開玩笑”，等於joke。“You’re kidding me!”相當於'You're pulling my leg!'（你在跟我開玩笑！）。
A：Do you hear Nancy is getting a divorce? 你聽說了南希要離婚嗎？
B：No kidding! Are you sure? 別開玩笑了！你肯定嗎？
A：That's what I overheard. 這是我無意中聽到的。

它相當於'why'.這種用法在口語中特別常用.
