e.g.I wonder if it doesn’t rain.
2.用if 會引起誤解,就要用whether.

3.習慣上賓語從句中的whether 與or not直接連用,就不能換成if;不直接連用時,即構成 whether not的結構時,英語中只用whether;而美語中常用if.所以我們的教學中習慣上 採用 not的說法.

4.介詞後的賓語從句要用whether引導.

her 可與不定式連用,而if不與不定式直接連用.

her 也可引導主語從句、表語從句、同位語從句,還可引導讓步狀語從句,以上均不能換成 if.
注意：引導主語從句時,習慣上whether從句置於句首時,whether不能換用if,如：
