雙語美文：無私的心

Today I posted a picture of our 8-year-old grandson, Eli, running in a race on social website.

今天我在社交網站上發佈了一張照片，照片上，我們八歲的小孫子正在一場一場比賽中奮力奔跑。

I tagged a friend, Andrew, to make sure he saw it.

我特意向一個名叫Andrew的朋友發送了提示，希望他能夠看到這張照片。 

There was a reason why Andrew was tagged

之所以要對Andrew發出提是有原因的

and I'd like to share the reason why.

Our son Todd died suddenly in a car accident at the age of 16.

我們的兒子Todd在一場車禍中意外身亡，年紀才16歲

Todd had been a cross country runner in high school with Andrew

那時Todd正在念高中，和Andrew都是跨國比賽的賽跑選手 

and they had become friends.

他們結成了好友

The day of Todd's calling hours Andrew came to show his respects.

Todd去世的那一天，Andrew也來悼念

My eyes filled with tears when I saw Andrew placed some of his cross country medals in the casket with Todd.

當我看到Andrew把自己在跨國比賽中獲得的獎牌放進Todd的遺物匣時，淚水盈滿了我的眼睛。

I walked over

我走過去

and asked Andrew why he was putting these medals in the casket .

問Andrew爲什麼要把那些獎牌放進遺物匣裏

Andrew explained to me that

Andrew對我解釋說

he would be able to win more medals in the years to come

在今後許多年，他還能贏得更多的獎牌 

and he knew that Todd couldn't.

但他知道，Todd已經沒有這樣的機會了

I will never forget this unselfish act of kindness.

我永遠不會忘記他這樣無私而善良的舉動

I hope if Eli continues to run he will win some medals too.

我也希望，如果我的孫子Eli 也想參加競速比賽，他也會贏得獎牌

But most of all I hope Eli will have a kind unselfish heart like Andrew.

但最重要的是，我希望Eli擁有一顆像Andrew那樣善良而無私的心
