緬甸全民盟官員預測本黨將勝選
A top official in Aung San Suu Kyi’s Myanmar opposition party has predicted it won a landslide victory and an overall parliamentary majority in Sunday’s historic election.
昂山素季(Aung San Suu Kyi)領導的緬甸反對黨的一名高官預測稱，該黨在上週日具有歷史意義的選舉中取得了壓倒性勝利，將在議會中佔據絕對多數。
Win Htein, a former army officer and ex-political prisoner, said unofficial results and party polling suggested the National League for Democracy would win the most votes in at least 11 of the country’s 14 main administrative regions.

“Daw Aung San Suu Kyi went around the country campaigning for the last two months and this is the result,” Mr Win Htein said in a telephone interview. “That means we will have a handsome majority to form the government.”

Htay Oo, acting chairman of the ruling Union Solidarity and Development party, conceded the party had trailed the NLD but said the margin was not clear. He told Reuters he was surprised by his own margin of defeat in Hinthada in the delta region, where the USDP and its predecessors have historically been strong.

An NLD election win would be a big political and emotional moment in the transition to quasi-civilian government begun in 2011. But it would also only be a step in the long process of appointing a new president and finding an accommodation between Mr Suu Kyi’s opposition and the still-powerful military.

Mr Win Htein claimed the NLD had performed sufficiently strongly nationwide to win the more than two-thirds of seats it needs to secure an overall parliamentary majority. A quarter of legislative seats are reserved for the army, which also enjoys other constitutional bulwarks such as the right to appoint some senior ministers.
