一、關於expect，你應該知道的用法有

1.預期，預料 [I,T] to think or believe that sth will happen or that sb will do sth
The things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end. If not always in the way we expect.
失去的東西到最後總會回來的，儘管有時會出乎我們的意料。
2.期望，期待 [I,T] to be waiting for sb / sth to arrive, as this has been arranged
I expect regular periodical reports from you.
我期待你定期彙報。
3.指望，要求 [T] to demand that sb will do sth because it is their duty or responsibility
The husbandman cannot expect a crop without sowing the seed.
農夫不可指望不耕種就收穫。
4.認爲 [T] used when you think sth is probably true
Come on, you don't expect me to believe that!

二、詞義辨析：還有哪些詞彙也能表達“希望”的意思呢？
desire, wish, hope, expect, want, long
這些動詞都有“希望”之意。
desire語氣較正式莊重，着重渴望的力量與熱切，常含有強烈的意圖和目的。
wish語氣較弱，多指難於實現或不可能實現的願望。
hope指對願望實現有一定信心的希望。
expect通常指有很大程度的把握，但仍含有預料之意，或預計某事或某行動的發生。
want一般指所想要的東西是切望得到的東西，能彌補實際需要。
long語氣強，指極殷切地盼望着，這種盼望側重於很難或不可能得到的東西。有時也指一般願望，但含一定感情色彩。
