hit本义为“打，击打”，nail是“钉子”的意思，所以hit the nail on the head表面意思是“正打在钉子头上”，比喻义就是“击中要害，一针见血”，指说话正好说到了关键处，到了点子上。类似的说法还有hit the bull's eye，hit the mark。
