你有沒有碰到過這樣的問題：在一個瀏覽器裡能正常顯示的頁面，用另一個瀏覽器卻可能無法開啟？隨著各種手持電子裝置的普及，像這樣標準不同、互不相容的問題也越發普遍。難怪有業內人士說，如今的網際網路都快成“分裂網”了。

Describing the splintering of internet technology, some writers see the problem in terms of new devices using different standards. Users no longer require web browsers to access the Internet, as new hardware tools often come with their own "unique set of standards" for displaying information。
在說到網際網路技術分裂這個問題時，有些人認為癥結在於很多新裝置應用的標準都不一樣。使用者不再需要網路瀏覽器來接入因特網，因為新興的硬體工具在展示資訊時使用的都是其自帶的“獨特的一套標準”。
Journalist and author Doc Searls, uses the term "splinternet" to describe the problem, which contribute to the various, and sometimes incompatible standards which often make it hard for search engines to use the data. As new devices incorporate their own ad networks, format, and technology, many are able to "hide content" from search engines。
記者兼作家Doc Searls用splinternet(分裂網)這個詞來指代上述問題，該問題導致各種標準的出現，有時不同標準互不相容，使得搜尋引擎無法正常使用資料資訊。新興的裝置合成了自己獨有的廣告網路、格式以及技術後，大部分都能夠將內容資訊“隱藏”，從而不被搜尋引擎發現。
For example, web pages don't look the same because of the screen size and don't work the same since the iPhone doesn't support Flash。
