地道俚語｜“give sb hell”是“給人地獄”？
今天學習一組和hell有關的俚語，哇哦，有點怕怕。
from hell
我們用“from hell”形容（某人或某事）特別糟的，比如：
Now Miranda - she was the housemate from hell.
哎，米蘭達——她是個特別糟的室友。
make sb's life hell
如果你make sb's life hell或者make life hell for sb，這也是個很糟糕的情況了，說明你讓別人的生活像“人間地獄”，形容給（某人）惹很多麻煩，讓（某人）日子不好過。比如：
I worked for her for two years and she made my life hell.
我給她打了兩年工，她讓我的日子很不好過。
hell on earth
這就是真正的“人間地獄”，英語釋義是“an extremely unpleasant place or situation”，用來形容那些讓人無比痛苦的地方，比如：
Soldiers who survived the war described it as hell on earth.
這場戰爭中倖存下來的士兵稱之爲人間地獄。
give sb hell
當然不是給某人地獄，它有這兩個意思，第一是嚴厲批評（某人）：
She gave me hell for being 20 minutes late.
因爲我遲到了20分鐘，她狠狠訓了我一頓。
第二是使（某人）受苦，形容被折磨：
These new shoes are giving me hell.
這雙新鞋把我的腳磨得疼死了。
come hell or high water
這個短語拿來表決心，意思是“無論有什麼困難，不管怎樣”。
I'll get you to the airport by noon, come hell or high water!
不論有什麼困難，我都會在中午前把你送到機場！
