Hearing that Tommy is from Texas，Elvin is excited to ask him how to play Texas Hold'em poker.
Elvin：Okay I think I get the names of the suits and hands. I'm still not sure about betting though. Doesn't that vary from game to game?

Tommy：Even though the betting style is different, pretty much any game from Five Card Draw to Texas Hold 'Em will use the same lingo.
（儘管下注方式不同，但從五張抽到德州撲克術語都差不多。）
Elvin：Okay good to know.
（那太好了。）
Tommy：So with betting, you can check, call, raise or fold. Just remember that if you say “I'll raise you twenty,” it means that you're changing the bet amount to twenty, not adding twenty on top of it.
（下注方法的話，有看牌、跟注、加註、或者棄注。記住如果你說“我加註二十”，意思是你加註加到二十，而不是再加二十。）
Elvin：Do you guys actually say “too rich for my blood” when you fold?
（你們棄注的時候會喊“too rich for my blood（吃不消了）”嗎？）
Tommy：Haha, sometimes. In any case, it's a good phrase to know!
（哈哈，有的時候會的。不管怎樣，知道這個短語還是很有用的！）
Elvin：Great! Now I just need to go work on my poker face.

Tommy：I had no idea you were such a card shark.

Elvin：No, I just like to play friendly games after work.

Tommy：Well， since I helped you with poker, would you be able to show me Mahjong?

1. suits and hands
suits and hands 花色和手牌
黑桃的形狀像鏟子，所以英文叫做spade
紅桃的形狀像愛心，所以英文叫做heart
方塊的形狀像鑽石，所以英文叫做diamond
現實中植物的梅花叫做 plum blossom，而撲克中梅花的英文名叫club
2. I’m still not sure about betting though.
betting是下注的意思，它的原型是bet，打賭
舉個例子，你的朋友說中國是世界上人均喝茶量最多的國家，可是你聽過小E老師的課，早就知道土耳其纔是泡在茶水裏的國家，於是非常自信的說：I'll bet you a million dollars that you are wrong!我敢賭一百萬美元你說錯了！
3. on top of
on top of在英語裏非常常見的一個表達，意思是“也”“此外”。實際上，在本課中也是這個意思。但是人們通常說on top of的時候，他們的意思是發生了一些不好的事情，然後又發生了一件壞事，禍不單行。
At our casino, dealers make tips on top of the monthly salary.
在我們賭場，除了每月薪水之外，發牌員還可以得小費。
We missed our flight and on top of that the airport hotel was fully booked.
我們誤了航班，而且機場酒店已訂滿了
