狗有時會對着月亮吠叫，藉以嚇唬月亮，可是無論它再怎麼兇猛咆哮都只是白費力氣而已。後來人們就用bay the moon或bark at the moon來比喻空嚷，徒勞，無事空擾。
boast above/beyond the moon 捧上天, 海闊天空地吹牛
對着月亮叫（bark at the moon）都是枉費心機了，boast above the moon更是吹大牛了。

這句英語諺語與中文中的以天爲被，以地爲席有異曲同工之妙呢，都是指露宿。
