老友記（五）：“我已經完全準備好吹捧你了！”
《老友記》最後一期，本期以列重點句爲主。第一個是關於Ross和Chandler的，兩個人整集都在爭一則笑話的版權，其他朋友們已經煩透了。比如Joey:
1. crack up 開始大笑起來
You guys with this joke, well, I gotta say, I know I cracked up but I’m not even sure I got it.
你們和這個笑話還沒完呢？好吧，說實話，雖然我笑得很開心，但我好像沒看懂。
Notes: crack up （因壓力造成身體或精神）垮掉，奔潰；開始大笑起來，例：
If he carry on working like this, he will crack up sooner or later.
他如果再這樣工作下去，身體遲早會垮。
She told us a story and everyone just cracked up.
她跟我們說了個故事，所有人都捧腹大笑。
2. go a long way 對……很有幫助
Joey因爲沒戲可拍已經窮的叮噹響，不得不去朋友們經常去的咖啡館打工，Rachel作爲過來人，在向Joey傳播經驗。
Let me tell you some things I learned working here. First of all, the customer is always right. A smile goes a long way.
我要跟你分享我在這的工作經驗。第一點，顧客永遠是對的。保持微笑對你大有裨益。
Notes: go a long way 字面理解是走了很大一段路，也可表示對……很有幫助，例：
You need to go a long way if you stick to your dreams.
要實現你的夢想，你還有很長一段路要走。
To keep a good relationship, respect and mutual understanding go a long way.
尊重和相互理解對維持健康的戀愛關係大有幫助。
3. live off 靠……生活
Rachel的妹妹離家出走，賭氣說要像Rachel一樣獨立生活。Rachel不得不向嬌生慣養的妹妹解釋什麼叫獨立生活？
This is what you are gonna do. You’re gonna get a job. You’re gonna get an apartment. And you will live off the money that you earn.
這些是你要做的：去找個工作，租間公寓，你只能靠自己掙的錢生活。
Notes: live off 以……爲食，靠……生活，近義的短語有live on/upon.例：
Birds live mainly off insects.
鳥主要靠食昆蟲爲生。
This family lives off their farm.
這一家靠他們的農場過活。
4. take credit for 因爲……得到好評
爲度過浪漫的情人節，Monica向Chandler提議他們倆親手爲對方做禮物。Chandler對於手工一竅不通，只能求助於朋友。
Have you made anything that maybe I can take credit for?
你們有什麼做好的東西可以讓我拿去討歡心嗎？
Notes: take credit for 因爲……得到好評，例：
The project’s success was a team effort. He can’t take all credit for it.
項目的成功是團隊努力的結果，不能全算他一個人的功勞。
5. pop into 急急走進
talk somebody up （美式）爲……說好話，吹捧
Ross和自己學院的學生談戀愛，即將見女方家長的他非常緊張，拜託朋友們幫忙捧場，多說好話。
Ok, why don’t we all take a seat? And I’ll get us all some coffee. You guys can talk whatever you want, you know whatever pops into your head.
好啦，我們爲什麼不坐下來聊呢？我去幫你們取咖啡，你們隨便聊，任何想到的話題都可以。
然而，計劃趕不上變化，急智的Rachel也有捅婁子的時候。她遲到了，當着那位父親的面說出了Ross的用意。
Sorry, I’m late. But I am ready, ready to talk you up.
抱歉，我遲到了。但我完全準備好幫你說好話了。
Notes: pop into 急急走進，把某物迅速放到某處，訪問某人，例：
A new way to solve this problem just popped into his head.
他的腦海中突然出現瞭解決這個問題的新方法。
She popped this letter into that mailbox.
她急忙把信投進信箱。
Bella, we may pop into you next week.
貝拉，下個星期我們可能會去找你。
talk somebody up （美式）爲……說好話，吹捧；直截了當地講，例：
The papers talked up Joey’s latest movie.
幾家報紙在大肆吹捧喬伊的新電影。
Just talk up if you have different opinions.
如果你有不同的見解，請大膽講出來。
6. creep somebody out 嚇到某人
Monica和Chandler這對couple 關於一個衛生紙上圖案的精彩對話，全文你看到出現最多的短語是哪個？沒錯，就是“creep me/you out”。
Chandler: Hey, honey, you got the kind with the little girl. You said you would buy the kind with the baby.
錢德勒：親愛的，你買的這個是帶小女孩圖案的。你說你會買帶嬰兒圖案的。
Monica: No, you said the baby creeps you out.
莫妮卡：沒有啊。你說嬰兒圖案的會嚇着你。
Chandler: No, the little girl creeps me out.
錢德勒：不對，是小女孩圖案的嚇到我了。
Monica: You said the baby.
莫妮卡：你說的是“嬰兒”。
Chandler: Why would the baby creep me out?
錢德勒：嬰兒爲什麼會嚇到我？
Monica: How would the little girl creep you out?
莫妮卡：那爲什麼小女孩會嚇到你？
Notes：creep somebody out 嚇到某人，例：
I don’t like Halloween because the costumes and make-up will creep me out.
我不喜歡萬聖節，因爲那些服裝和化妝總會嚇到我。
7. level with 對……說實話，直言相告
Joey在和一個叫“C.H.E.E.S.E”的機器人合作拍戲，卻對這個機器人的發明者不太尊重。對方的不滿可能會讓Joey失去這個角色。Joey必須努力挽回。
Level with me. I keep hearing rumors that I might fired.
跟我說實話吧，我一直聽人說我要被解僱了。
Notes：level with 對……說實話，直言相告，例：
He decided to level with the girl he liked about his own sufferings.
他決定坦率地和喜歡的女生談談自己的苦處。
