陳豪在北京的ABC美國公司工作。每當有什麼禮節方面的問題，他都去問美籍華人Mary。現在他正在打電話約Mary去吃午飯。
(Office ambience)
M：Hello, Human Resources Department, this is Mary.
C：Hi Mary. ---1---? 我有一張優惠券，買一送一。Sounds good?
M：Excuse me. Who's this?
C：是我呀！陳豪！你連我的聲音都聽不出來呀？
M：噢，是你呀！陳豪，---2---.
C：嗨，都是熟人還要報自己的名字？
M：---3---. 而且有的人的聲音聽起來很像的。
C：That's right。我有個朋友，他兒子的聲音跟他的非常像。每次我朋友接電話時，我都以爲是他的兒子，所以我就問：你爸爸在家嗎？
M：---4---?
C：開始他有點生氣地說：我就是他爸。可有一次他回答說：我爸早死了。
M：---5---. (Telephone rings...) Hello, this is Mary.

C：Hi Mary. 早上我看你有電話，所以就走了。
M：---6---. 美國人打電話時一般不喜歡別人站在一旁聽。
C：不過我還有個問題要問你。
M：What is it?
C：我有一次打電話給一個很重要的客戶，他的祕書接的電話。那祕書就問我："---7---?" 等我告訴她我的名字後，她又說："I'm sorry. Mr. Moore is in a meeting." 你說他是真的在開會，還是不想跟我說話？
M：這我可不知道。但是要是你先報了名字，接電話的人說某某人不在，你就不會有這種疑問了。
C： 那倒也是。---8---?
M：Well...---9---. 你可以說："Hi honey...", or "Hi sweetheart..."
C：你開什麼玩笑呀！ I don't even have a girlfriend. 我連女朋友還沒有吶！
M：Yes, I WAS kidding. 因爲在商業場合是不可能，也不允許這樣說的。
C：Mary, 請你把我們談到的電話禮節總結一下吧！
