Describe an intelligent person you know.
You should say:
who this person is
when and where you first met them

Ok right then, well the person that I’d like to talk about is one of my university coursemates called Nick, because he’s honestly one of the smartest people I know. And we’ve been friends ever since I started university, because I found myself sitting next to him in our first lecture, and we (kind of) just got talking.
As for what kind of person he is, well um, I guess the best way to describe him would be sociable and likeable, coz I mean, although he’s a super smart guy, he’s not arrogant in the slightest, and he gets on well with pretty much everyone in my year.
Anyway, moving onto why I think he’s intelligent, well first of all, he always does really well in all our exams, you know, like coming top or second in most of them. And what’s amazing is that he doesn’t seem to study (all) that hard, but still manages to do so well. For example, as well as studying, he’s also got a part-time job, which I’m sure must take up quite a bit of his time. So it ‘s really impressive how he’s able to do this without it affecting his studies whatsoever.
And another thing is that whenever the lecturer asks a question, he always knows the answer, and sometimes he’ll just whisper it to me because he feels a bit embarrassed to answer every time!
So yeah, I’d say he’s a really clever guy, and I feel very lucky to have such a good friend.

I gonna tell a story about thinking out of the box, when the box is defined by "airplane"
When I was in high school our physics teacher gave us a challenge that involved making a paper air plane of any shape. The only objective was to get it to fly as far as possible. I had some paper air plane making skills so I made the best plane I could and it flew pretty far. The prize seemed to get under my belt.
One guy made the greatest, yet simplest paper airplane of all time. He stood there at the starting line with a regular piece of paper. Some classmates scratched their head while silently chuckling to themselves. Moments later he took the flat piece of paper, crumpled it up, and threw it down the hall way.
He beat the class with ease.
Some of the students got mad and said that he cheated.
The physics teacher said, "How so? I said it could be any shape. A paper ball is indeed a shape."
He won the contest with flying colors.
A saying goes like "Talent hits a target no one else can hit; Genius hits a target no one else can see."
I still regard this classmate as a genius.

我要告訴你的這個聰明的人是我叔叔，他在一家肥皂廠工作。
The clever man I am going to tell you is my uncle, who works in a soap factory.
大概5年前，肥皂廠從國外引進了一條非常先進的生產線。生產效率有了極大的提升。但是不久之後，公司的人發現這個生產線存在一個問題。有時候，從生產線上出來的肥皂盒裏會沒有肥皂。這個問題非常讓人苦惱，因爲它會極大的損害公司的聲譽。畢竟一個連自己產品質量都無法控制的公司是不值得信任的。公司的技術員工嘗試了各種各樣高科技的解決方案，但都因成本過高而被放棄。
About 5 years ago, the factory introduced an advanced assembly line from abroad. This dramatically boosted its productivity. But soon after, workers found that it had an annoying drawback. Sometimes, the soap case came out without soap in it. This would damage the company’s image pretty hard, since a company that was not able to control the quality of its products could never win customers’ trust. Technicians tried a variety of high-tech devices, but gave up all of them because of budget limitation.
這時我叔叔，作爲一個已經在工廠工作十幾年的老員工，提出了一個非常簡單的辦法。在生產線旁邊放置一臺大功率電扇。這樣沒有裝肥皂的肥皂盒就會因爲重量較輕被吹走，而有肥皂的產品則會保持不動。事實證明這個解決方案非常成功，並且成本極低，只有200塊錢。
Then my uncle, an employee who had worked in the factory for more than ten years, came up with a quite simple solution. Why not put a high-power fan at the end of the assembly line. In this way, the soap case without soap in it would be blown away due to its lighter weight, while the qualified products would stay put. This method worked out perfectly and only cost 200 yuan.
這也是我爲什麼認爲我叔叔聰明的原因。他在面對一個複雜問題的時候並沒有受到困惑。而是找到問題的本質，給出了一個非常簡單直接的解決方案。
That is why I think my uncle is wise. Faced with a complicated problem, he went deep into its nature and found a straightforward solution. While others believe a complex problem needs a complex answer ,and quite often, they get lost in seeking it.

闡明：我覺得馬雲聰明的地方就在於他總是能夠用他嫺熟的演講技(professional public speaking skills)巧化解臨場的尷尬，另外他也很能夠打破常規思考問題(think out of the box)，比如湖畔大學就是個例子。這所大學非同國內的普通高校，它填補了國家在高等教育上的一個空白，既能幫助國家發展，又能促進自己企業的成長。
另外，你也可以寫寫中學時期的同桌，他天資聰慧(intelligent)。我記得在上數學幾何部分的時候弄了兩個星期都沒弄懂的題目，他跑過來幫我講解了15分鐘就解決了類似的問題，後來我做這部分的數學題真的是百發百中，很有成就感(成就感可以說a sense of achievement)。
