那麼，你肯定要問glass ceiling effect 是什麼呢？

今天，我們就來講一講這個老生常談的職場話題。

A glass ceiling is a metaphor used to represent an invisible barrier that keeps a given demographic (typically applied to minorities) from rising beyond a certain level in a hierarchy.

玻璃天花板是指在公司、企業和機關、團體中對某些羣體（如女性、少數族裔）晉升到高級職位或決策層的潛在限制或障礙。

比如，美國雖然很發達，但還沒有女性能成爲該國總統。

所以，2016年希拉里競選的時候，就說美國女性在政壇就遭受 glass ceiling effect 的影響，並呼籲女性要努力打破這一障礙。

所以，所謂的玻璃天花板效應，是指有些障礙如玻璃一樣，雖然不會明文規定，但卻是實實在在的存在，以至於在職場中某些人羣被無形限制。

另外，與此相似的，還有玻璃地板（glass floor）一詞。

它是指某些羣體在地位降低過程中的障礙。

比如因爲對女性的刻板印象，在減少她們相對男性升任公司總裁及高階主管機會的同時，也減少了她們失業、過度勞動、落入地位低下的礦工、囚犯等處境的機率。
