vegetable的可數性及用法

　　1. 無論表示作爲植物看待的“蔬菜”還是表示作爲食物看待的“蔬菜”，它通常都是可數的，且通常用複數形式。如：

Fresh vegetables are sold in this market. 這個市場售賣新鮮蔬菜。

Cut up the vegetables very fine. 把菜切得碎碎的。

I like cooked vegetables with all the natural juices still in. 我愛吃保持原汁的煮蔬菜。

　　2. 若表示一種“蔬菜”，可連用不定冠詞。如：

Is the tomato a vegetable or a fruit? 蕃茄是蔬菜還是水果?

Spinach is a leafy green vegetable. 菠菜是一種綠葉菜。

The potato is a vegetable, not a fruit. 土豆是一種蔬菜，不是水果。

若語義需要，也可連用most, many等。如：

We gave away many of the vegetables from our garden. 我們把自己園子裏的很多蔬菜都送了人。

Most vegetables are readily available at this time of year. 這季節大部分蔬菜都很容易買到。

　　3. 若用於名詞前作定語，則要用單數。如：

The bad weather has sent vegetable prices up. 天氣不好，導致到蔬菜價格上漲。

We have a vegetable patch behind our house. 我們在房子後面有一小塊蔬菜地。
