British firms are currently in talks with IVF clinics regarding offering egg freezing as a perk to female employees.

The UK's largest private chain of clinics, CARE Fertility has said companies are exploring the possibilities.

This benefit would mean that women in their 20s and 30s could focus solely on their careers, wait until they meet the right partner, or are financially stable.

Apple and Facebook have been offering subsidized egg freezing up to a cost of 16,000 pounds for staff for the last two years. They have said it empowers women and offers them other choices.

But those criticizing the idea have said it encourages women to delay having children during their natural childbearing years which they believe is not the answer.

Josephine Quintavalle from "Comment of Reproductive Ethics" said the answer lies in a more equal society rather than offering discounted egg freezing.
