雙語故事:英語中的"植物"喻人

想來不少人都知道那句有名的詩，my love's like a red, red rose，用紅玫瑰喻心上人。

我得說他新交的女朋友十分漂亮。(桃——美人)

他是個合作的好夥伴。(桃——受人喜歡的人)
Peach: (Informal)A particularly admirable or pleasing person or thing。
(非正式用語) 受人歡迎的人(或物) 極受尊敬或歡迎的人或事物

來參加舞會的女孩比男孩多得多，很顯然有的女孩只有坐冷板凳了。(桂竹香——舞會上沒有舞伴而坐着看的女子)
wall flower，或譯爲“壁花”，是很傳神的描述，女孩如花，卻沒人請跳舞，只好坐在牆邊，靜靜地開放，倒也不失爲一種風景。

lily在英語中是純潔的象徵，也是美麗的標誌，所以英語中有as fair as a lily(美極了)的說法，還用paint the lily來表示“作不恰當而過分的修飾”，有些“畫蛇添足”的意思。
