Because it was the bank's mistake, there was no delay reopening my account. The manager cut through all the red tape. Now I had money in my account. And I had the green light to write checks again.
一封銀行來的信函到來的是Out of blue。我們在之前的學習中曾經介紹過這個短語，它表示 by surprise, unexpectedly也就是“驚奇地；毫無預期的；毫無準備的”。再比如：I just got a call from my brother. Out of the blue he told me he just got married. 我剛接了我哥哥的電話，讓我一點準備都沒有的是他說他結婚了。
信裏的內容是什麼呢？I had no money in my checking account. 我的活期存款賬戶裏一分錢也沒有了。雖然無法相信，但是信得內容是in black and white。In black and white這個短語的意思是 very clear and easy to understand，明擺着的。一看便知的。這和我們漢語中常說的某件事是白紙黑字的寫着的意思相近。例如：Surely not , but that is what it says . Look its here in black and white . 肯定不會，但它是這麼寫的，看這兒是白紙黑字寫明的。
賬戶裏分文皆無意味着I am in the red. in the red表示owing money, in debt.也就是欠錢的意思。這個紅色就和我們平時所說的“赤字”是同一種狀態。比如：I am running in the red. 目前我的財務處於赤字狀態。
好在清者自清，原因出在銀行本身，於是，銀行的經理cut through al the red tape。Red tape意思是比較複雜的正式的手續等。這裏意思是說銀行的經理直接辦理了相關的所有手續。於是我的錢又回到了賬戶中。也因此，I had the green light，這個短語之前也有過介紹，意思是被允許開始做某事。文章中一場虛驚過後的I 則是又可以用支票了。
