"布朗尼加分"口語課堂:"忍"～"忍無可忍"
的網友們大家好。漢語裏關於“忍”的成語或習語有不少。百忍成真，忍一時風平浪靜，等等。佛教也將“忍”推崇爲“衆妙之門”。不過，借用周星馳的電影臺詞來說，人總會碰到“忍無可忍；無須再忍”的時候。
在之前的學習中，我們接觸過the last straw“壓倒駱駝的最後一根稻草”的用法。它表示即便事情雖小，但加在許多麻煩事情上，最終會讓人不堪忍受。今天我們再來看另外兩個習語。它們分別表示“強忍”和“忍無可忍”。
Bite the bullet 咬緊牙關；強忍痛苦
字面意思爲“咬住子彈”，這難度有多大大家可想而知。來看兩個例子。
A: I’ve decided not to quit the GRE exam.
我已經決定繼續參加GRE考試了。
B: But the exam is on the way. Do you have enough time to get prepared?
但是馬上就到考試時間了。你有足夠的時間準備嗎？
A: I know. But taking everything into consideration, I decided to bite the bullet.
我知道。但對所有因素做了全面考慮之後，我決定背水一戰，咬牙堅持住。
我們再來看一個例子：
The president asked the board to bite the bullet to the crisis 見補充. 董事長讓董事會咬緊牙關頂住這場危機。
有些時候，忍無可忍的時候可以反擊，有時候卻可能是忍到絕望，忍到不得不放棄了。
at the end of tether 實在沒轍了
tether本身就表示“忍耐的極限”。在忍耐極限的盡頭，也就是再也不可能繼續忍受了。
比如，一個疲憊的妻子忙碌一天之後對丈夫說：
You put the children to bed; I’ve been with them all day and I’m nearly at the end of my tether. 你讓孩子們上牀睡覺吧。和他們待了一天，我幾乎沒什麼耐心了。
They are at the end of their tether; another strain upon their business means bankruptcy for them. 他們已經到了山窮水盡的地步，他們的生意再經受一次擠壓就會破產。
一個小小的“忍”字裏有無窮深意，不過這要每個人自己體會和感悟了。好了，本期內容我們就到這裏。
