如何戒菸?

Many people try to give up smoking to improve their health - but it can be difficult without help and support. We have teamed up with LloydsPharmacy for its Need-to- know health campaign which aims to make patients more aware of the support services offered by their local pharmacist - and to make the pharmacy their first point of call.

So The Mirror's Health Correspondent Martin Bagot asked LloydsPharmacy pharmacist Anshu Bhimbat in the above video and Q&A below two of the key questions people have when it comes to quitting smoking.

Q: Public Health England has recently published evidence that e-cigarettes are 95% less harmful than normal cigarettes. What would you say to someone who is thinking about quitting using these?

A: When someone comes in to pharmacy to stop smoking it's considered a very beneficial change to their lifestyle and we would support them to do so.

There are many options available, including e-cigarettes, gums, inhalators; it's about finding the right product for you. E-cigarettes, if the right option, are considered to be less harmful than cigarette smoking as they lack the tobacco - which contains carcinogens and toxins which can be detrimental to health.

Q: What happens to the body as soon as someone stops smoking?

A: When someone stops smoking there might be some initial side-effects. These will be things like mood changes such as irritability and nicotine cravings. However these should subside after stopping smoking, as it's due to nicotine being very addictive and the body getting rid of it and the toxins that have built up from smoking.
答:戒菸剛開始的時候可能會有一些副作用。比如情緒變化(煩躁)和對尼古丁的渴望。然而,完全戒菸後這些副作用就會消除,這是因爲尼古丁會讓人上癮,戒菸後身體會清除吸菸所導致的尼古丁和毒素。

The positive effects and benefits on your health are noticeable almost immediately. Twenty minutes after stopping smoking you will notice an improvement in your circulation, your blood pressure will return to normal. After 72 hours of stopping smoking you will notice an improvement in your breathing as your lung function will improve.
