Drivers in China have to pay more attention to traffic rules or risk paying much higher penalties, according to a revised regulation that takes effect on Jan 1,2013.
The new regulation also makes the penalties for certain common traffic violations stricter. Running a red light can result in the deduction of six points from an offender's driving license. And people who purposely cover up a vehicle's license plate can lose 12 points, enough for their licenses to be suspended.
被稱爲“史上最嚴交規”的修訂版《機動車駕駛證申領和使用規定》於2013年1月1日起施行。新交規中對闖黃燈、故意遮擋號牌等違法行爲也大了處罰力度。新規規定，駕駛機動車違反道路交通信號燈通行的，一次扣6分。不按規定安裝機動車號牌的違法行爲記分提高至12分。
【講解】
“從重處罰”在本文中爲higher penalties，也可譯爲heavier penalties 或者 stricter penalties。需要注意的是，penalty專指法律上的或體育運動比賽中的處罰。
“交通違章” 是traffic violation ，其中violation 可譯爲“違反、違背”，如“違法行爲”可譯爲violation of the law。
