據北京日報報道，北京有11.91萬人住在數千間存在安全隱患的地下空間內，北京將繼續爲期三年的地下空間綜合整治行動。

【講解】

risky underground facilities是存在安全隱患的地下空間。
據摸排統計，本市散租住人和存在重大安全隱患的地下空間共3125處，其中有932處人防工程（civil air-defense constructions）和2193處普通地下室（regular residential basements）。
北京宣佈於2014年末至2017年12月集中治理對現存散租住人和重大安全隱患地下空間的違法違規使用（illegal use of underground space）行爲，杜絕新增違法違規使用，全面消除安全隱患（potential safety problems）。
北京將利用科技（employ technology）和現有政府公共安全管理平臺和資源（current government public security resources）加強地下空間的管理（improve the management of underground space）。同時還將充分利用地下空間爲城市建設和居民生活服務，引導地下空間使用向公益便民方向轉變（transform the function of underground space from dwelling to philanthropic）。
數據顯示，自2014年10月以來，北京已完成地下空間整治（administration of underground space）353處（locations）、32.5萬平方米（square meters）。
北京市人口超過2100萬，面臨着空間有限（limited space）以及經濟適用房需求高（high demand for affordable housing）等問題。因此許多人選擇居住在共用浴室（communal bathrooms）和廚房（shared kitchens，共用廚房）的地下室。
