關於art與arts的用法區別
1. art 表示“藝術”“美術”等，有時可數，有時不可數，注意以下用法：
(1) 原指繪畫、雕塑、雕刻等傳統藝術，但現在也有人用它指電視、電影等現代藝術，爲不可數名詞。如：
Can we call television art? 我們能把電視稱作藝術嗎?
Do you like modern art? 你喜歡現代藝術嗎?
(2) 表示“美術活動”“藝術活動”，也不可數。如：
She devotes her spare time to her art. 她把業餘時間都用在美術上。
(3) 表示“藝術作品”“美術作品”，也不可數。如：
Are these films art or entertainment? 這些電影是藝術片還是娛樂片?
若指一件或幾件藝術作品，通常藉助單位詞work。如：
This tapestry is a work of art. 這張掛毯是件藝術品。
(4) 表示藝術的門類，可用作可數名詞。如：
Drama is an art that is traditionally performed in a theatre. 戲劇是一門傳統上在劇院表演的藝術。
(5) 統指包括美術、音樂、電影、戲劇、舞蹈等在內的“藝術”，通常用複數形式，且要連用定冠詞。如：
She is a patron of the arts and gives money to support the symphony. 她支持藝術事業並出資贊助這個交響樂團。
2. art 表示包括歷史、文學、語言等非自然科學學科的“文科”“人文科學”，或泛指包括音樂、繪畫、文學、電影、舞蹈等的“藝術”“文藝”，通常要用複數形式。如：
She’s a Master of Arts. 她有文學碩士學位。
History is one of the arts. 歷史是一門人文學科。
Should the new department form part of the Faculty of Arts? 這個新的系屬文學院嗎?
Please address all correspondence to the Arts Editor. 所有信件請註明文藝編輯收。
與“文科”相對的是“理科”，英語用 sciences 表示。如：
I attended the College of Arts and Sciences at New York University. 我進入紐約大學的文理學院學習。
3. 表示具體做某事所需要的“技術”“技藝”“訣竅”等，注意以下用法：
(1) 爲可數名詞，且通常用單數形式。如：
Getting him to go out is quite an art. 要使他出去可得有一點技巧。
Threading a needle is an art in itself. 穿針引線本身就是一種技巧。
(2) 表示做某事的技巧，其後通常接of doing sth。如：
It’s one of the arts of living. 這是生活的一種藝術。
I’ve never mastered the art of making bread. 我一直沒有掌握製作麪包的技巧。
但是，在(there is) an art to doing sth中，習慣上用介詞to。如：
There’s an art to parking this truck. 停這輛卡車有一個竅門。
There’s quite an art to flipping pancakes. 翻烙餅很有講究。
有時也說(there is) an art in doing sth，但用in不如用to普通。如：
There is a special art in [to] knowing when to give up. 懂得該在什麼時候罷休是一種特別的本事。
