To "shell out" means to spend money.

“shell out”的意思是花一大筆錢。

It is mostly used when the amount of money involved seems too high for what you bought.

大部分情況下指你所花的錢遠遠超過你購買的物品的價值。

In our example, Jonathan thinks Dave spent too much money for a piece of jewelry.

在上面的例子中,喬納森覺得戴夫花費太多錢買一件珠寶。
