pass the buck 這則俚語的起源和紙牌遊戲有關,據說在19世紀的紙牌遊戲中,buck是指“獵獸用的大型鉛彈”或者“帶鹿角手柄的刀”。當輪到某人發牌時,這個東西就會轉交給他。在1865年,這個短語成爲紙牌術語,意思是:“將發牌權轉交給某人”。後來,逐漸演變成:“把責任推給另一個人”。因此,當美國人說"Don't pass the buck."時,他/她要表達的意思就是:"Don't shirk your responsibility."、"Don't shift the blame to others."。
